Pre-Season West Meon, Senior v Less Senior
On one of the few sunny Sunday's in July a unique five-a-side game was played out on the West Meon pitch. Some well known names made up the senior side (30+ years and more) against a team of young contenders ready to beat their elders. The competition was intense as reputations would be won or lost on the result. Not quite a local derby but the spirited defence of each goal mouth showed an intensity rarely seen in West Meon. Eight teams took part in a very enjoyable day for participants and helpers alike. The teams were East Meon, Wey Valley, Purbrook, West Meon, Clanfied, AFC Paxton, Meon Valley, Masters. Fortunately (or unfortunately for the organiser and referee!) West Meon won the tournament. West Meon 1st Team - Division 1 Winners The season is now well underway and after four matches the first team are second in Meon Valley Division 1 with 9 points. The older more experienced team are bottom of Division 4 on 1 point after 3 matches. Age may count in some things but not in this case Rob! However there is hope for the future as 26 youngsters now attend the Saturday morning junior session and East Lodge under 15’s have a full fixture list playing at West Meon on Saturday mornings too. Macca teeing up a goal WM&WSC runs two football teams, both of which play in the Meon Valley League. This is a Sunday afternoon league which also provides opportunities for teams to enter a variety of local and county cup competitions. In fact, the side has proved so successful it has reached seven Meon Valley cup finals in as many years. For further details contact Rob Morrish. Tel: 829266.
